Education is the fundamental platform to raise the development of a sustainable society, which must be equitable and engaged with permanent learning processes, based on the respect for all forms of life, where affirm values and actions that contribute to the human, social, economic and ecological transformation. Stimulating the creation of socially just and ecologically balanced societies that preserve a relationship of interdependence and diversity among themselves. This requires individual and collective responsibility in a local, national and international level. This paper analyzes the efforts at global and national levels to develop environmental education towards an education for sustainable development, with emphasis on university education level, including a description of some of the efforts done by Simón Bolívar University.
